Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN)

 

NTN, or Non-Terrestrial Network, is a communication technology defined by 3GPP. It uses aerial nodes such as satellites, high-altitude platforms, and UAVs to extend 5G NR communication coverage to areas beyond the reach of terrestrial base stations.

 

NTN antennas enable direct satellite connectivity for terminals, supporting wide-area IoT communication. Unlike GNSS, which is primarily used for positioning, NTN supports bidirectional data transmission. Featuring high-gain circularly polarized antenna designs, NTN systems can maintain stable communication in oceans, deserts, mountainous regions, and other areas without cellular coverage, while supporting seamless roaming between satellite and terrestrial cellular networks.

 

Typical Applications: Offshore equipment, field IoT devices, emergency communications, and global asset tracking.
